Mysterious fence-like structures found in the Amazon rainforest stumped scientists for months. After six months of research, it was discovered they’re made by spiders, but the exact species is still unknown; scientists have been unable to raise any of the lab-hatched spiderlings to adulthood. A single egg is laid in the tower-like structure in the center and the surrounding fence is likely spun by the mother spider to protect the egg against would-be predators.
